Overview

Audience: New and veteran teachers & union members

Responsibilities: Project management, instructional design, elearning development

Tools Used: Vyond, Lucidchart, Articulate Storyline

Union leaders at this school were having trouble with members knowing when to reach out to them for help. Teachers do not find themselves in these situations frequently, and when they do, it is often highly stressful. Members needed to practice these scenarios so that they would know what to say. I developed a branching scenario training to help them practice in a comfortable environment.

PROCESS

Action Map

To create this complex branching scenario, I first developed an action map to keep track of each interaction. The format changed several times throughout the process as more information was added and the idea expanded upon.

Storyboard

Next, I scripted a storyboard and included notes for programming and visual design. The focus was on keeping the language conversational and succinct.

Visual Design

I used a combination of Vyond and Storyline to create the look of the project. Before fully developing the animations and connections, I designed prototypes and worked on perfecting them.

Full Development

I finalized the animations in Vyond, and brought them into Storyline. Once there, I created the layers, hover states, and triggers that bring the branching scenario to life.

RESULTS & TAKEAWAYS

The outcome of the process is a well-thought out and complex branching scenario. The landing phase of the project is still underway, so its impact is yet to be determined.

Overall, I was pleased with the outcome of the project. I especially like the feature at the end that allows the user to print a job aid.

In the future, one change I would make would be to add audio files for all of the characters instead of just for the narrator.
